Scientist
Protein Production Unit
Describe your current role at CPR.
I am a member of the Protein Production Unit. My main responsibility involves the purification of proteins, including antibodies and antigens, to support the research of other units. As part of my work, I collect and document detailed experimental data. I have to maintain a high standard of lab cleanliness to ensure the accuracy and precision of research data. I also contribute towards optimizing work processes in the lab to improve efficiency and capacity.
Do you enjoy working in the lab?
I enjoy working in the lab very much. Protein purification can be complex due to the diverse protein characteristics, the tricky nature of protein interactions, as well as the different requirements of each project. Through the troubleshooting process, I have developed a deeper understanding of protein purification and sharpened my problem-solving skills. I am grateful to my colleagues who are always willing to extend a helping hand. I highly appreciate the friendly working environment in CPR!
Did you encounter any challenges in your work and how did you overcome them?
When I first joined CPR as a fresh graduate, I was still in the early stages of my career and had limited practical experience on tackling challenging proteins. Therefore, I had to rely heavily on my senior colleagues for guidance and instruction. To enhance my knowledge on protein purification, I committed my spare time to reading up on the relevant literature. I also actively asked questions and tapped into the experience of my mentors so that I could learn from them to develop my troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
What do you like most about CPR?
I appreciate that CPR encourages open channels of communication with its employees. We are able to express our opinions and provide feedback openly. The management team values the input of employees and is very willing to listen to our feedback. Apart from that, I am grateful that there is a flexi-hour working scheme in place as it allows us to have a better work-life balance.
